Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 自然資源與環境學系 === 100 === This thesis shares experiences of teaching planting of rice and onion at school yard and rice paddy near two elementary schools in Hualian by a school teacher. The time period started from January 2009 to June 2012. This study first recalled the experience of water rice planting at Shoufeng elementary school, and them the researcher restarted onion planting at Yeimei, an indigenous elementary school. The first purposes was to design a season long garden base learning activities for student, deliver and test appropriateness of evaluation tools such as feedback sheets, interview, and observation notes. The second was to reflect and compare teaching, difficulties and strategies adopted during growing process and formative evaluation results of two events. The third was to explore how did participate students, collaborate teachers and school principle respond and how much they liked and what did they learn. The researcher also shares experiences on curricula development, delivery procedures, results of feed back sheets and interview with participants. Learning performance of engaged students were recorded in this thesis. Results found that garden based learning can help infusing multiple subjects, issues to expose engaged teacher and learners with comprehensive learning experience. The learners did appreciate the hard working of farmers and learn the spirit of collaboration. The evaluative tools tested in this process were found effective. Because the sowing, harvest practice of rice always need large mechanics that are too danger for students to access and operate, therefore, simplicity and security shall be concerned first during the species selecting. Meanwhile, the activities also need to be scheduled on right season, and seedling must be on right soil condition of land, otherwise, various difficulties including pest control and nutrition might occur. This thesis attached appendix of operating processes of two tested curricula for further references. The author recommends that a teacher who want pursuit rice planting need lots of previous life experience and resources support from local agriculture association, always taking notes and snap shoots whenever the learning is emerging. For those beginner teachers, experience learning is worthy, that is the only way to appreciate the devotion of farmers and learn to be a farmer.
