Discuss the examples of the application of community resources in visual arts teachings by elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City. In the study, the “Questionnaire on the Application of Community Resources in Visual Arts Teachings by Elementary School Teachers in Hsinchu City” edited by the author of the study was used as the research tool and visual arts teachers in public elementary schools in Hsinchu City during the academic year of 2010 were used as the research targets to carry out the general survey. The data of the questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS12.0 and the statistical methods used included: Descriptive statistics, Independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA. The following conclusions are obtained from the research results: 1. In terms of the type of community resources elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City apply in visual arts teachings, material resources are used most frequently. Exhibition halls in particular are the most often used resource while natural landscape and historical temples nearby the school are also often used by the teachers to carry out visual arts teachings. Labor resources are the most frequently used resource following material resources and students’ parents are the most often used labor resource. 2. In terms of the perspectives elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City have toward applying community resources in visual arts teachings, most of the teachers hold positive attitude toward the application. In particular, the teachers highly agree with the perspective that the application of community resources in visual arts teachings allows students to understand the artistic and cultural content of the community. 3. In terms of the ways elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City use when applying community resources in visual arts teachings, they often carry out visual arts teachings by taking students to “temples” and other public sacred buildings nearby the school and historical memorial archways that exist exclusively in Hsinchu City to compare the characteristics of the buildings or to sketch the buildings. 4. The sufficiency of the teaching process time is the main factor that influences the application of community resources in visual arts teachings by elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City. 5. In terms of the difficulties and limitations elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City encounter, most of them are from the teachers themselves. For example, they worry their professional abilities are inadequate, they feel the school work is overloaded that they do not have time to prepare and they do not know much about the community resources themselves. 6. In terms of the strategies elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City use when applying community resources in visual arts teaching, they highly agree with “The school should collect information on community resources whenever possible and file them for teachers to use and refer to in the future.” 7. Most of the elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City often use scared buildings to carry out visual arts teachings, especially arts appreciation of Taoist temples and buildings. Moreover, visit to Hsinchu City Glass Museum is a teaching activity many elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City use in visual arts teachings. Finally, relative suggestions are proposed based on the research results to provide references to educational administrative units, schools, teachers, communities and follow-up researchers.
