Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 藝術教育與創作碩士班 === 100 === What will a painting be without contours, lines or objects? Running away from figurative paintings that I’ve been trained since young, I decided to enter the abstract world, and began the journey to explore the way of smearing paintings with overlaid colors and brush strokes. Through repeated overlaying way, I tried to accumulate shapeless and objectless pattern on the canvas. With this continuous process which is overturning, clarifying, and then remolding, my smearing painting repeated pondering and contradicting, scraping off and covering again. The indistinctly appeared textures and traces of the paintings made by scrapping and covering profoundly implied my thoughts about art. In the writing of “The Veiled Traces”, I will describe my creation from 2007 to 2010, in which I will discuss the working process of smear paintings by three aspects: the act of smearing, the traces on the work, and my veiled mind. In the first chapter, “Introduction“, I will describe the origin and idea of the switch form figurative painting to smearing painting. In the second chapter, “Covering”, I will interpret the development of smear painting, and invest supported documents from Abstract Expressionism and Minimal Art to establish the spirit of smearing painting. In the third chapter, “Traces”, I will discuss the texture and traces of the “Art Informel” from the aspect of wall image. I will also record the unique feature and rule of the traces on my works. Through the theoretical study in "Individual Phychology of Alfred Adle" that is related to the concept discussed in the foregoing chapters, in the fourth chapter “Veiled”, I will discuss the veiled mind in the paintings that present inner and outer behavioral effects, and ponder whether the act of smearing is the crucial cause of self-denial as well the lack of confidence. In the fifth chapter, “Conclusion”, I will integrate the idea of this writing to define the concept of smearing painting, and meanwhile, to inspire readers to realize the meaning of self-creation and the direction of my future development. Following unconscious ways of repeating overlaying, my smearing painting works to ponder the content of the image. By doing so, my veiled mind is able to be examined. Muddle followed by query, and contradiction followed by confirmation, this journey helps me to explore the meaning of art making. The mind of artistic creation is therefore become clear through the analysis of this study.
