The daily used pipe assembly ISO drawings, pipe piece manufacturing worksheets, pipe material purchasing order specifications, and solid models of piping system design were studied. The constructions of the identification codes of blocks, pellets, pipe components, pipe specifications are analyzed and introduced. These codes are the pointers to integrate the piping system design, pipe material purchasing and management, as well as the manufacturing of pipe pieces. The lubricating oil piping system of the main engine of a container ship was used in this research as the sampling objects to trace various pipe manufacturing costs, including labor, material, and chemicals. A portion of this piping system was used to test the cost estimation method developed for the pipe construction work. The main purpose of developing the pipe component cost database and the pipe manufacturing cost estimation method is to report the costs of pipe routes designed by engineers. Such type of design reference information is especially useful when using the trunk-based piping arrangement design to select pipe routes that will cost less in piping system construction.
