Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 應用日語研究所 === 100 === The purpose of translation is to interpret foreign language, and most important of all the concept of equivalence when translating. However, when comparing two cultures, there isn’t always a proper interpret for source language to target language; therefore translators had put on a great effort using different kinds of translating techniques to narrow the gap between different cultures. In this thesis, using Haruki Murakamis’『Tokyo Kitan Collection』, comparing the translation of two translator Ming-Chu Rai and Shau-Hua Lin , whom been the typical study subject of literal translation and direct translation by many researchers, discusses the effect caused by different translation style. By analyzing the equivalence on translation, translators’ correspondence towards culture vocabulary and classify in to「unity of terminology」, 「preserve original form (literal/direct)」,「omission, alternation」, and「mistranslation」well be studied and conducted for each clause. In「unity of terminology」, there are name of person in katakana, brands, cars, Music-related terms, place, company, loanword...etc. The result in analyzing the deliberate translation; Rai , who interpret direct translation, uses various technique to reproduce the effect of source language, while Lin overview Chinese character. To preserve the likeliness of original text, both translators use multiple style of translation when matched with Newmans’ V diagram. In 「omission, alternation」, Lin points out that there are 1. disregard for additional information 2. deleting duplicated expressions 3. omit displaying the speaker and personal pronoun 4. omit appointed detailed information and proper noun. Lastly in「mistranslation」the confusion by abbreviating subject phrase, Sino homograph problem, and a displacement with original text is seen as example of mistranslation. Overall, among two translators, most of the mistranslation in Lins’ work comes from wrong interpretation and lacks semantics translation of Japanese language. In conclusion, analyze shows Rai and Lin style of translation switch in the first and second half of the translation.
