The study is based on surveys by the followers of Shin Ling Temple that were randomly selected. Three hundred participants were randomly selected, and 268 valid samples were collected, including 136 completed by elderly over the age of 65. In order to understand the relationship between different types of religious activities and their contribution to elderly health, the contents of the survey includes: A、spiritual entrustment;B、social status improvement;C 、 studying of religious text;D、 leisure;E 、 participation in Qigong. This study has found that: (1) Through their participation, the elderly gain spiritual satisfaction and happiness in mind. (2) They elderly are able to openly accept aging as a part of life, and pay special attention to the importance staying healthy. (3) The participation in religious( Daoism ) activities is helpful in the transformation from adulthood into elderly in terms of living conditions and value, so that they accept aging without difficulties and become proud, self-respected elderly. The research findings showed that the intrinsic motivation factors which affect the senior citizens to continue learning are “spiritual sustenance,” “the Daoist scripture studies,” “recreation,” and “Qigong exercise (which is also called breathing exercise)”; the extrinsic motivation factor is to “enhance social status.” Keywords: Elderly, Daoism activities, Health promotion
