Summary:碩士 === 國立澎湖科技大學 === 服務業經營管理研究所碩士在職專班 === 100 === Recently, in daily life for Penghu residesnt, we can see a lot of new immigrants, who also gradually are running ethnic shops with exotic food restaurants so that they can cater to local people needs, based upon their flavors. In addition to the restaurants, Southeastern groceries, clothing stores, and so on. Surprisingly, it is not easy for the ordinary people to run a shop. However, the foreign brides from far away from their countries can run shops to survive to keep their shops running, which requires a lot of difficulties to overcome. Therefore, in this study qualitative study was utilized to explore the issues of running shops by means of semi-structured personal in-depth interviews. The aim of this study is to explore the motivation, process, and difficulty of running shops for female new immigrants. This further examines if the appearance of running shops for foreign brides married to local residents in Penghu cam affect the change of landscape of running shops for local people. In addition, this study also investigates if the shops run by foreign brides can affect the society in Penghu. Based upon the data collected from this study, the number of shops run by foreign brides from Southeastern Asia throughout Penghu was up to 28. Most of the shops focus on the major areas of a city center in Penghu City, especially scattered at Pei-cheng Market where the local people would like to go shopping. The rest of shops were respectively located at different areas at the outskirts of Makung City. In such a case, this kind of running shops from foreign brides can affect the original appearance of shops run by the local people. As a case study of shops run by foreign brides and their sisters, the result indicated that there were big differences between the foreign brides’lives after their marriage and what they had expected before they came to Taiwan. In order to support their family and kids’educational fees, the foreign brides needed to get financial support as well as encounragement from where they grew up in overseas countries. This is the reason why they were motivated to run their own business. This study is different from previous study due to their leading roles in the family. The previous studies showed that the females were passive and auxiliary roles in the family. Most importantly, the previous studies explored their running business from their husbanbs’families. However, in this study the running business are in fact from their original families. In this study, due to devotion to much efforts in managing their businesses, the weak females in the family have been changed as producers, and further major financial supporting roles. The role of females in the family for foreign brides has been changed, which is worthy to be paid attention to for future studies
