Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 幼兒教育學系碩士班 === 100 === A Study of Environmental Knowledge, Environmental Attitude, and Environmental Practices among Preschool Teachers in Taichung City Lin, Jing-Huei Abstract This study investigated the relationship between environmental knowledge, environmental attitude, and environmental practices among preschool teachers in Taichung City. The questionnaire survey method was adopted. A self-developed questionnaire titled “Survey on Environmental Knowledge, Environmental Attitude, and Environmental Practices of Preschool Teachers in Taichung City” was used. The survey was administered to 850 preschool teachers in Taichung City selected based on stratified random sampling. A total of 815 responses were collected, and 797 of them were valid. Data were analyzed using methods including descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and multiple stepwise regression. The conclusions of this research were as follows: 1. Among environmental knowledge, environmental attitude, and environmental practices, preschool teachers in Taichung scored highest in environmental knowledge and lowest in environmental practices. However, they were positive and active in all the three aspects. 2. This research examined differences between preschool teachers with different background variables including age, gender, education degree, school type, school size, position, length of service, teaching style, participation in courses on environmental education, involvement in environmental protection groups, and participation in environmental education training. The main differences were as follows: (1) In the aspect of environmental knowledge, preschool teachers’ performance significantly varied by age, education degree, position, teaching style, and participation in environmental education training. Differences across other variables were insignificant. (2) In the aspect of environmental attitude, preschool teachers’ performance significantly varied by age and length of service. Differences across other variables were insignificant. (3) In the aspect of environmental practices, preschool teachers’ performance significantly varied by age, school type, school size, length of service, involvement in environmental protection groups, and participation in environmental education training. Differences across other variables were insignificant. (4) In terms of performance on the overall scale, significant differences were found across all background variables excluding teaching style and participation in courses on environmental education. 3. Environmental knowledge, environmental attitude, and environmental practices were all positively related among preschool teachers in Taichung City. 4. The predicting power of preschool teachers’ background variables on their performance in environmental knowledge, environmental attitude, and environmental practices was summarized as follows: (1) Preschool teachers’ environmental knowledge could be predicted by their age, education degree, length of service, teaching style, and participation in environmental education training. (2) Preschool teachers’ environmental attitude could be predicted by their length of service and position. (3) Preschool teachers’ environmental practices could be predicted by their education degree, length of service, and involvement in environmental protection groups. (4) Preschool teachers’ performance on the overall scale could be predicted by their age, school type, length of service, position, and involvement in environmental protection groups. Based on the above findings, this study suggested all preschool teachers in Taichung City continue to implement their environmental knowledge, environmental attitude, and environmental practices. Besides, authorities of preschool education should also offer more courses on environmental education to improve preschool teachers’ environmental knowledge, environmental attitude, and environmental practices.
