Elementary school teachers trained in language and literature, especially, should utilize their training for this purpose. Past studies rarely mention 1) how these teachers learned scientific concepts and transformed them into words, 2) what kinds of supports they needed in their writing process, and 3) what they learned from the writing experience. This study uses the method of narrative inquiry to review and investigate the process of writing science books for children, undertaken by a teacher (the researcher of this study) with training in language and literature. The science topic on which the teacher wrote is “global warming.” This study narrates what the teacher saw, heard, and thought about during the writing process, presenting problems that she encountered and the solutions that she found for them.
