碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 國語文學系碩士班 === 100 === Confraternity of beggars is the biggest organization which plays an important role in Jin Yong’s knight-errant novels. This very group is composed of crowds of people with dishevelled hair and dirty faces who are from the lowest level of the society. All of the members are classifed in different levels by the specific bags they carry along in the confraternity. The heads of Confraternity of beggars in different generations such as Fong Chiao, Chi Kong Hong, and Ron Huang are also important characters in Jin Yong’s world for leading their members to devote to public issues. Therefore, research on confraternity of beggars in Jin Yong’s knight-errant novels is worthwhile and important. In this paper, the plots which relates to confraternity of beggars in Jin Yong’s collection will be discussed, especially in “The Legend of Condor Heroes”, “The Return of the Condor Heroes”, “The Heavens Sword and Dragon Saber”, “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils”, and “The Smiling, Proud Wanderer”. Furthermore, three main plots, including how the head shows up, the rally and how this confraternity works are analyzed. In conclusion, the image and the spirit of Confraternity of beggars in Jin Yong’s knight-errant novels will be discussed and investigated.
