碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 國語文學系碩士班 === 100 === The Research on Tablets and Couplets in Temples of Jeng Cheng-Gung in Tainan district, Taiwan Abstract Tainan district was the earliest area established by Jeng Cheng-Gung troops, and also the place where featured cultural property is well-preserved. This dissertation is based on cross analysing literature reviews and field studies of tablets and couplets in temples worshiping Jeng Cheng-Gung. The results of the research are implied to record, and to systematise the history of related contents in temples. Meanwhile, by tracing back the religion of Jeng Cheng-Gung, development of local culture has been indicated. The researcher has classified the contents of tablets and couplets; and figured out the principles of materials, carving methods, fonts, numbers of words on tablets and couplets. The present of literary phonology, the art of rhetoric, and the social cultural phenomenon have been explored to discover its historical cultural meaning. Researching on functional characteristics of tablets and couplets in Jang Cheng-Gung temples provides different views from previous studies, and leads us to understand the value of folk beliefs, and to witness the preservation of cultural property.
