The research method used was a questionnaire survey procedure. The subjects were sixth-grade students from Tainan City and Kaohsiung City. Six schools were randomly selected according to the population distribution of each city. Participating schools from each city included: two big schools in the downtown area, two medium schools in suburban areas, and two small schools in remote areas from. Ninety-nine male students and eighty-six female students (one hundred and seventy-seven students in total) participated in this study. The main findings of this study are as follows: 1. The learning effects of sixth-graders’ problem-solving presented a normal distribution. 2. There was no significant difference between the problem-solving abilities of male and female students. The female students generally performed slightly better than the male students. 3. There was no significant difference in the problem-solving abilities of students from rural and urban areas. However, students from downtown area progressed earlier in their learning development than students from suburban and remote areas. 4. Due to the use of different learning models, there was a significant difference between students in big schools from Tainan City and Kaohsiung City. The final test showed that the average rate of students in Tainan City who found the correct answer exceeded that of Kaohsiung City students. Bih-sheue Shieh 謝碧雪 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 57 zh-TW
