碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 台灣文化研究所碩士班 === 100 === Taiwan is a society of multi-religious traditions. Especially after the martial law was abolished in Taiwan, new religions emerged in great number. Yiguandao flourishes tremendously in that period in Taiwan. Consequently, numerous books have been devoted to the study of Yiguandao. However, Yiguandao has enormously complex organization, consisting of 18 different branches. Most study only deal with one branch of Yiguandao. This study deals with the history of Wenhua branch. This is a less known branch of Yiguandao, not because its members are relatively fewer or because it is coated with mystery. The main reason for its obscurity is that it broke up with the mainstream Yiguando organization and merged with Xiantian Dadao and declared itself as Miledadao in 2000. This study examines developments of Wenhua Branch in three stages and tries to clarify some misconceptions about beliefs and practices of yiguandao, such as universal salvation or returning to the original state. Moreover, this study wishes to probe the future development of Taiwanese new religions.
