In this research, reinforced concrete specimens suffered from chloride contamination are treated with the ECE and two different setups of auxiliary electrodes (vertically arrangement and horizontal arrangement) have been adopted to perform the electrochemical chloride extraction, we evaluate the efficiencies of these two different setups of auxiliary electrodes for ECE and study the influence on the capability of inhibiting corrosion after treatment. The results show that two setups of auxiliary electrodes have no negative influences after treatment in four different properties including mechanical, physical, chemical and electrochemical properties. Although the ECE performance of concrete specimens with horizontal auxiliary electrodes is better than concrete specimens with vertically auxiliary electrodes, both of these setups still seem to be affected by stirrups. However, both setups show a good enough chloride removal that about 60% of the initial chloride ions are removed within 8 weeks. This reveals that using auxiliary electrodes can promote the ECE performance, and reduce the affection of stirrups.
