Four classes of second grade of Elementary School at Taipei City were the study objects. Two was the experimental group(19 males and 24 females, 43 in total), while the other two was the control group (20 males and 24 females, 43 in total). Students in the experimental group had received eight-week teaching gratitude oriented character education, one hundred and sixty minutes per week, while those in control group hadn’t. The researcher used the gratitude attitude scale for students of elementary school, the emotional relationship scale for students of elementary school, and the peer relationship scale for students of elementary school, as the study tools. They were applied to pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test. All the data were analyzed by statistical techniques such as Independent T test and Single factor covariant analysis. Other written such as learning feedback were also analyzed. The results of the present study were: 1. Teaching gratitude oriented character education can promote children’s gratitude attitude. 2. Teaching gratitude oriented character education can improve children’s emotional management. 3. Teaching gratitude oriented character education can improve children’s peer relationship. 4. Most of the students in the experimental group liked and felt satisfactory about the teaching gratitude oriented character education; ninety percent of them felt the teaching contents were entertaining and they also liked the relating teaching activities. 5. Students expressed their willingness to take similar courses; thus the teaching gratitude oriented character education is worthy of promoting. Finally, based on the results mentioned above, the researcher proposes concrete suggestions for the reference of character education practitioners and follow-up researchers.
