Summary:碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 進修部暑期體育碩士班 === 100 === ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to discuss the development of Diabolo skills in Taiwan. The discussion was divided into three major phases: the pioneering phase (before 1988), the developing phase (1988-2003) and the maturing phase (2003-present). This research was conducted using data analysis and field investigation to collect, proof, synthesize and analyze the data. At the pioneering phase, Taiwan citizens were generally unfamiliar with Diabolo. Hence, a few professional players tried to promote and demonstrate this traditional folk sports. The tricks at this phase were typically limited on jumping on the strings and sticks, players often demonstrated the tricks without moving around. Traditional gong and tom-tom music were frequently used. However, this type of music often simply became the background; the embedded rhythm was largely ignored. Performing costume was mostly traditional Chinese styles and typically loose due to its convenience to move. At this phase, moving in sync was important while performing. At the developing phase, a video made by Gong_Qun`s in 1988 began to introduce the importance of connecting different Diabolo tricks and it turned Taiwanese players
