Not only the competitors but also mass media will persist to report candidates who were involved in scandals. However, what’s the effect on the candidates? Which type of scandals will be the deathblow? These are the questions which this dissertation aims to answer. According to the analysis, the numbers of financial scandals which were reported in the newspaper affect candidate’s votes. The more the financial scandals were reported, the less the candidates gained votes. Moreover, in terms of sex scandals, two factors have effects on candidate’s votes. The sex scandals which were reported as local news in the district lead the candidate to gain less votes. Candidates also disadvantage by the sex scandals which were reported one month before the election. Finally, compared with the sex scandals, financial scandals could enhance the candidate’s votes significantly.
