Due to this phenomenon, the player-related academic research are gradually prospered, however, the engagement of adventure game (AVG) is rarely studied. AVG is one of the most important game genres, in which player playing the role in an interactive story driven by exploration and puzzle-solving. This study examined the players’ engagement of AVG in the context of two specific forms of media involvement: parasocial interaction with game characters and transportation into games. The results indicate that people continue to play adventure games games if they have experienced enjoyment while playing the games. This enjoyment can be attained if the player has parasocial interaction or immersive transportation. Parasocial interaction can be facilitated by friendship, attraction and control toward game charactors; while transportation can be facilitated through cognitive belief and immersion into the narratives. The results revealed that both parasocial interaction and transportation affect the enjoyment of playing AVG significantly. In addition, attatchment avoidance moderates the effects of AVG engagement on game enjoyment. This paper ends with the implications of applying the study results to enhance the design of adventure games for customized players.
