Summary: | 碩士 === 亞洲大學 === 數位媒體設計學系碩士班 === 100 === People with multiple disabilities often have a combination of various disabilities that may include physical motor-impairment, speech, hearing or visual difficulties, and so on. Limited by their handicap, those people usually have difficulty in receive education, have a job as normal.
Handicap combine with motor-impairment cannot manipulate objects precisely and smoothly, such as grasp, move objects in the right directions and speed, press buttons, and so on. Hence, they face many problems using computers, because they cannot use general input devices such as keyboard and mouse. In addition, they also have difficulty in using software not designed base on universal design. But most research only addressed on the improvement of hardware, such individualized mouse. Researches about the suitable software interface to be usable by multiple disabilities, especially those motor-impaired people are relatively rare.
Universal design is the design of products and environments to be usable by all individuals, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. If multiple disabilities using learning software designed based on universal design with the assist of individualized input device, they will learn better.
Hence, this study designed an e-Learning course based on universal design to verify the learning need and problems of multiple disabilities. The subjects are three cerebral palsy patients and one muscle atrophy patient, and the content of e-Learning is “Graphic Design Principles”.
To find out the multiple disabilities’ actual need when learning, this study reviews the literatures about the issues of universal design, the various barriers of multiple disabilities confront with. To understand the current state and needs of those multiple disabilities using learning multimedia, this study also investigate the opinions of parents and teachers of those students by questionnaires. Finally, experimental designs are used to verify if the e-Learning multimedia designed based on universal design is helpful for those multiple disabilities learner.
