By the tensile testing, the ultimate strength and the yield strength can be measured and thus clearly revealed the conditions of the heat treatments. As we have the mechanical properties of the hinge in laptop. The Young Modulus and Poisson ratio could be used for the finite element analysis (FEA) to ensure the accuracy of the FEA model. From the FEA simulation results, the maximum stress on the mechanism of laptop can be obtained and the most vulnerable area of structure can be improved. From results of FEA on the pivot mechanism, the rotary frame and the Von Mises stress value of the fixed frame is not greater than the yield strength. In this thesis, a series connection of Belleville springs was also calculated and the results showed that it could reduce the reaction force on the pivot mechanism by modifying the size of Belleville and therefore increasing the lifetime of pivot mechanisms. The reaction force of the Belleville springs under different combinations and sizes on the cam and the maximum distributions of Von Mises stress on the follower cam are also studied during the reciprocating motion.
