The largest group came from mainland China, and the second largest from Vietnam. As of June 2010, Taipei had 18,555 new Vietnamese immigrants, the greatest number out of the various regions of Taiwan. The majority of these new female Vietnamese immigrants settled in Taiwan through marriage, changing the ethnic composition of Taipei. To the society of Taiwan, the changes that came with the new Vietnamese immigrants were the increase in workforce and family labor and the birth of a new generation called “the new Taiwanese descendants.” With these issues related to immigrants, the Taiwanese government and private non-profit organizations introduced various cultural, educational, and artistic activities to assist the immigrants in adapting to their new lives. The different events revealed Taiwan’s attitude towards the new immigrants. The events provided a stage for the immigrants to present themselves, and they allowed one to understand the musical tastes of the new Vietnamese immigrants. Moreover, one could comprehend their current lives in Taipei through these activities. From interaction with the said individuals, lullabies and children’s songs for the new Taiwanese descendants as well as the popular Vietnamese “red songs” and “yellow songs” were discovered. These songs are filled with Vietnamese culture and meanings; they are the female immigrants’ musical memories towards their homeland. 李秀琴 2012 學位論文 ; thesis 168 zh-TW |
