碩士 === 大同大學 === 資訊工程學系(所) === 100 === The aim of this thesis is to investigate the opportunities of using symbolic meaning of color, number, and sound as a communication medium to provide peripheral information. An ambient display as a test bed, which exploits scenic sound, color and light patterns in the bathroom mirror to provide scenario related information for background processing during toothbrushing has been built upon the idea of calm technology. The display seeks for a balance between the level of disruption and quality of information perception. Qualitative research methods are used to evaluate the concept and benefit of the sound, color, number combination in delivering information. The results yield a high value of the proposed concept by showing a good level of usefulness and comprehension of the participants towards the display. This thesis also summarizes design guidelines and distills recommendations for further development of ambient displays to use the proposed combination to convey abstract information
