However, it is followed by nosocomial infection which is resulted from drug-resistant strains, such as methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Furthermore, the mortality rate associated with MRSA may be five times higher than the death rate associated with all cases of nosocomial infection. Therefore, control charts for industrial use is applied to medical monitoring. In order to monitor the infection of outbreak in advance, this study is based on Chen''s (1978) Sets Method and is to improve his model for investigating the monitoring of nosocomial infection associated with MRSA. To find out the better risk-adjusted control mechanism, this study is compared with the research about high yield cumulative quantity control chart and np control chart which are mentioned by scholars in the past. This study found that the improved model of Sets Method has better performance (ARL1=7893) to monitor the outbreak of MRSA in advance by setting the risk factor to γ=4 on the fixed in-control average run length. Also, by discussing with the infection control staff of the case hospital and setting out specific measures for outbreak, the improved model of Sets Method in this study can not only help the infection control staff to detect abnormal events in advance but also make control chart more applicable in clinical use.
