However, fail due to delamination happens to almost every single case. The delamination is caused by the shrinkage of the structure and failure of the plaster. Most tiles are designed to have inclined corner to prevent fracture from the corner, but not polished quartzite tile. Polished quartzite tile is designed to be totally flat and without inclined corner. The tile must be placed tightly, to minimize the gape to protect their corners from fracture. However, because of the property of insensitively dimensional change, polished quartzite tile is always squeezed seriously in the winter when the structure shrinks due to low temperature. If the plaster is not applied well, the small gape can not offer enough shrinkage space or the residual strength in the plaster is too strong, the tile will delaminate. In this study, admixture is added to the plaster to reduce setting shrinkage to reduce residual strength, operation procedure is suggested to applied plaster well, and the minimum thickness of gape is suggested. Experiment is conducted to verify the reduction of shrinkage due to the admixture that reduces residual strength in the plaster. A real case of retrofit is displayed.
