| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系碩士班 === 100 === Along with the thriving of fashion industry, fashion photography has proven its value; fashion photo shoot not only has become an important part in the design of magazines and advertisements layout, but also of which outstanding ones are included in the collections of the museum. The history of fashion photography, spanning over one hundred years, is an epitome of our time, showing the advancement of the equipments, and recording the history of fashion. Fashion photography nowadays is far from sheer presenting garments, but evolves into conveying contemporary complicate ideas integrating different issues. The research studies the case of Vogue magazine, founded in 1892 and well known for the elaborate fashion images, aiming to explore the composition of serial images of the fashion photo shoot in magazines. Samples are collected from issues published in odd-numbered years from 2000 to 2011, using purposive sampling to select samples from the six years of issues, picking up one issue for each season and one sample for each issue, in the end, total 24 samples are gathered. The study is divided into three phases: first, gathering related literatures and theories on image composing for the use of subsequent research; second, conducting in-depth interviews to understand the design and editing of fashion magazine and the shooting of fashion photography; finally, using content analysis to investigate the photo arrangement design, the ways of telling the story, fashion focus part, and factors influencing the composition of fashion photography. The results of the study are as follows:
3. The way the fashion photography presents in Vogue magazine consists of two kinds: photo-series and photo-story.
4. The photo arrangement design of fashion photography in Vogue magazine is with five distinctive traits:
(6) Photo-series is of heavier using than photo-story, with a total of more than 25 sets, and most sets are with 6 to 9 photos each.
(7) 129 sets are started as double page layout; 52 sets, one page with two columns; 1 set, one page one column.
(8) There is a preferred way for image structuring; four different types are included as follows: totally same image structuring, same in angle of coverage but different in angle of view, same in angle of view but different in angle of coverage, totally different image structuring.
(9) The photos achieve the effect similar to film camera movement.
(10) Every series include panoramic or medium panoramic shoots, camera taking flat angle shot; no close-up shoots ever appear; the shortest working distance for Vogue is medium close-up shoots.
5. Three types of story-telling are used, including, role play, staging, and narrative.
6. Four fashion focus parts connecting with each other are modeling, styling, background and atmosphere, and the theme of photo-series or photo-story.
5. Eight factors influencing the composition are as follows: the editing of serial images, the establishment of atmosphere and scenario, single focus shoots, multiple focuses shoots, crowded composition, spatial focus shoots, garment focus shoots, and angle of view and camera angle.
