Since aggregated upload bandwidth of peers could be efficiently utilized, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology has become a promising solution for delivering video to a large number of users. In P2P networks, the behaviors of peers such as bandwidth and lifespan usually are heterogeneous. Therefore, how to consider peer heterogeneity to design a scalable and efficient P2P video streaming system is challenging. In this dissertation, we aim at addressing the following issues: 1) P2P video-on-demand (VOD), 2) P2P live streaming, and 3) super-peer overlay network. In the first issue, we propose a proxy-assisted P2P VOD system in NUWeb. With the assistance of the proxy, the system can provide efficient video search, interactive function support and reliable video transmission. Recently, scalable video coding (SVC) has become a promising technique for content adaptation. Due to layer decoding dependency, SVC-encoded video is vulnerable to be transmitted over the Internet. Thus, we propose a P2P SVC-encoded video streaming system based on Network Coding. In the proposed system, a novel video protection scheme, SVC-NC, and two scheduling mechanisms are presented to improve error robustness and provide smooth playback. Super-peer overlay network is an important type of P2P overlay networks. With the continuous growth of participating peers, a scalable and efficient super-peer overlay plays an important role in maintaining the system performance. In the third issue, we propose a novel overlay topology, self-similar square network graph, and its construction scheme. Ren-Hung Hwang 黃仁竑 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 95 en_US |
