Digital image correlation (DIC) technology is then used to measure the strain fields of the roller under different groove shapes and loading conditions. The experimental results are further verified by finite element analyses and Hertz contact theory. The results show that when the applied load is relatively large, the contact regions of the roller show significant strain concentration phenomena and present similar strain fields as the numerical results. A 2D ball screw finite element model is then developed to obtain the contact load of each roller. The numerical results are then verified by the analytical solutions from the ball screw contact model of Mei et al.
