Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 化工與材料工程學系 === 101 === Kidney stones are micro-crystal aggregates, most commonly containing calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) as the primary constituent. In this study, the crystallization behaviors of calcium oxalate prepared from sodium oxalate and calcium chloride are studied using a photomicroscopic technique in an isothermal, continuous-flow chamber. The effect of various inhibitors, including magnesium, citrate and pyrophosphate, on the nucleation and growth kinetics of calcium oxalate in the aqueous solution is examined in detail.
The experimental results show that the effect of various inhibitors on growth rate and nucleation rate of calcium oxalate has a trend: magnesium < citrate < pyrophosphate. It is found that only COM is formed from sodium oxalate and calcium chloride without inhibitors or in the presence of magnesium. On the other hand, no COM exists and only COD is nucleated in the presence of citrate or pyrophosphate.
