Technical R & D experts are now often to use patents indexes to predict and analyze different countries' or industries' development direction, and to serve as a reference for patent portfolio strategy. In recent years, RFID technology has become a widely used technology in the 21st century, more countries have invested a lot of resources proceeded related applications, a lot of new techniques has been applied for patent from countries to protect their patent value. United States use a lot of RFID technologies in business, and promote the Europe and even around the world to invest a lot of resources in global RFID market, our country also by the international attention because of " Active E-Seals Expedite Cargo Shipments in Taiwan " in U.S. RFID Journal. Therefore, this study will first use “number of patent applications”and “number of International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications”to find out overall RFID industry technology trends and to distinguish popular and valuable RFID technology development direction. Then, use the analysis of “trend of time”, and use “Revealed Patent Advantage (RPA) index”and “K-means cluster analysis” to explore the change of different countries in the relative advantages technology, and the development direction change of the technology of these countries.
