Description
Summary:碩士 === 中華大學 === 行政管理學系碩士在職專班 === 101 === The purpose of the present study was to investigate differences in attitude among primary students towards the Character Education Program, and to assess the impact of the programs on their behaviors, attitudes, and concepts. The study used a Quasi-Experimental Research Design comparing 109 Grade Two students from four classes at an elementary school in Hsin Chu City, Taiwan. The children were divided into an experimental group (54 children) and a control group (55 children). The experimental group received daily instruction over twelve weeks in three topics taught during the morning warm-up session. The control group received no explicit lessons, but were instructed in related topics integrated into other areas of the curriculum. A “Measurement Scale of Character Traits for Primary School Children” was designed to assess the participants pre- and post-instruction. Data were collected and analyzed statistically. As well as quantitative measurement, a qualitative analysis was conducted, including surveys collecting post-teaching feedback from both the participants and their parents. Principal findings were: A.Post-teaching, the experimental group showed significant improvement over the control group in their perceptions of the traits “Respect” and “Responsibility”; their behavior towards the trait “Filialness”; and in their attitudes towards the traits “Filialness” and “Responsibility”. B.No statistically significant difference was found between the experimental group and the control group in respect to such factors as family structure and socio-economic status, which might have affected their performance. C.Gender showed a significantly statistical difference within the experimental group as related to behaviors and attitudes towards the trait “Respect”, their attitudes towards the trait “Responsibility”, as well as on the overall measuring scale. D.Despite there being no significant improvement found in students’ perceptions and behaviors towards the “Filialness” trait, the results indicated that, compared to the control group, female participants in the experimental group excelled overwhelmingly on all other aspects investigated in the study. E.Apart from students’ perceptions and behaviors towards the “Respect” trait, male participants in the experimental group outperformed the control group significantly on all other aspects investigated in the study. F.Qualitative data, including teachers’ observations and surveys from both the participants and their parents, showed that the impact on, and improvement of participants after the implementation of Character Education Program were apparent to both teachers and parents. This finding agreed with the results of the quantitative analysis. Outcomes of the present study demonstrated that the implementation of Character Education had a positive impact on the primary students, regardless of gender differences, in constructing character perceptions, formatting character behaviors, and fostering character attitudes. The data also showed that female participants demonstrated a greater positive improvement than did male participants. We recommend further study to solidify the results of our investigation.
