Digital content has characteristics of easy replication and rapid transmission. If there are no suitable protection mechanisms for digital content, the digital content is vulnerable to illegal use, copy and tamper. The purpose of developing the digital content protection mechanism is to protect digital content, but most of the digital content protection mechanisms lack user convenience and increase the additional cost of hardware. Some protection mechanisms have high degree of user convenience, but the degree of protection becomes weak. This research proposes a software protection mechanism for digital content called Emedi-LM. Emedi-LM protection mechanism has well ability of protection, hardware costs, software and hardware compatibility, and user convenience. The concept of this mechanism is that when the user uses the application at first time, the program will automatically connect to the server to perform a registration for authorized permission through the media access control address (MAC Address) used by user device. The Emedi-LM protection mechanisms will automatically generate a license file at the computer that user complete the first registration with any computer, and then there is no longer required to register to server when use it again at this computer. All we need to do is using the license file at this computer to get self-certification and then user can use the software at any time. This mechanism can reduce the need to wait the server certified for users and it also provides the most convenient and without an increase in any hardware for users.
