Highly efficiency , competition and modern convenient life reduce the opportunity of physical activity. So far, teenagers of junior high school are at the main stage of physical development and mental improving, this is the most important stage in their life. Traditional concepts in academic usually divided intellectual education and physical education into two different sphere but also ignoring traditional physical education. Purposes: The main purpose of this study is trying to understand the physical fitness status of junior high school students, through data research to discuss the relationship of physical fitness ,academic achievement and all kinds of population data. Methods: The sampling method of this research is purposive sampling,and the participants are 271 third-grade students of publish junior high schools in Taichung City who were enrolled in 2011. The researcher got the students’ academic and physical fitness grades of five semesters by self-administered questionaires. The physical fitness comprises the stature and weight of the students,sit-up in one minute,sitting trunk flexion,standing broad,the speed of running 800 meters(female) and the speed of running 1600 meters(male).As for the academis, it based on seven main learning areas in the nine-year intergrated curriculum of junior high school which including languages(comprises National language and English),Mathematics,Science and living technology and Social studies. The resercher analysis the data by Descriptive Statistics, Two-Way ANOVA(GLM-Repeated Measures), Spearman(Spearman Rank correlation analysis), Pearson and Regression Analysis. Results: First, the BMI values of physical fitness of third-grade students of publish junior high schools in Taichung City were within the normal range.The physical fitness were a little higher than the national norm. Second, as the increase of age,there is no obvious changes of BMI. As the increase of age,power,muscle stength,cardiovascular endurance are increased but the flexibility is decreased.The academic achievement performance changes as the U term. Third, family structure ,nationality of parents,parenting style,parental education levels are related to physical body fitness performance. Fourth, gender,family status,nationality of parents,parental education levels are related to academic achievement. Fifth, the physical fitness showed significant correlation with academic achievement.Especially cardiovascular endurance showed highly significant correlation with academic achievement. Conclusions: This study will provide common suggestions for national physical education development governance agency.In order to improve normalized physical education, efficiency of teaching, increase students learning enthusiasm and cultivating lifelong exercise habits that we should popularize physical exercises to everyone and subsume physical fitness into admissions of twelve - year compulsory education.
