Description
Summary:碩士 === 健行科技大學 === 經營管理研究所 === 101 === Myopia prevention is one of important health care issue for children. The prevention of myopia for children dramatically increased recently from nationwide epidemiology report of myopia in children. For 7 years old children, the prevalence of myopia was 3% in year of 1986. However, the prevalence of myopia was 20.2% in year of 2000. To our knowledge, the risk factors and mechanism for myopia development are very complicated and unclear until now. Moreover, the research exploration of myopia development was focused on the vision structure, vision function, and environment exposure in most of studies. The relationship between vision care behaviour and myopia in elementary school students has not been addressed. The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between vision care behaviour and myopia in order to develop the preventive strategy for myopia. We enrolled total of 206 students, studied in third degree, from one public elementary school in Taoyuan county. Before conducting vision prevention program, we used questionnaire to collect individual characteristic data including gender, performance, parent’s education, and myopia for parents. The data regarding knowledge, attitude, and behaviour for vision health care was also collected from students. The results show: 1.The present study reports 35% of myopia prevalence in elementary school students with third degree. The prevalence in female is higher than in male with marginal statistical significance. The proportion of myopia is higher for students’ mother than father. 2.The average score is 8.11 for vision care knowledge. The average score is 12.36 for vision care attitude. These shows the knowledge and attitude for students performed well. But the 35.3 of average score in vision care behavior was performed not well. 3.Mother with myopia, students are more likely to have impaired vision. 4.For vision care behavior, student with inappropriate behavior such as longer use of video and computer is more likely to have myopia. 5.The mother’s education is associated with improvement of impaired vision for students. From our investigation for knowledge, attitude, and behaviour of student, we found longer use of video and computer is an crucial risk factor for myopia development. The result suggests that the education and health care departments should increase the outdoor activities for elementary students.
