| Summary: | 碩士 === 大葉大學 === 管理學院碩士在職專班 === 101 === The goal of this research is to analyze the factors that influence the winning percentage in Major League Baseball (MLB). By gathering the data from YAHOO! Sports website and the official MLB website, using descriptive statistics, independent samples T test, and multiple stepwise regression analysis, the results are as follows : 1. There is a positive correlation between the winning percentage and the batting average plus the slugging percentage. 2. A high positive correlation (0.849) exists between the batting average and the on base percentage; another high positive correlation (0.770) also exists between the slugging percentage and the on base percentage. The higher the on base percentage is, the higher the winning percentage is. 3. Walking plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) and earned run average (ERA) are negative related to the winning percentage. Meanwhile, the fielding percentage is positive related to the winning percentage. As a result, a high fielding percentage is one of the keys to winning a game. Finally, according to the research outcomes, they can provide predictions of the future games, and help the teams to raise their winning percentage.
