It is generally considered that one’s leadership style in the organization will affect the entire group’s overall performance, and even the success and failure. Thus, the issue of the leadership style always gets lots of attention and is ardently discussed, and its importance is self evident. The police organization’s distinctive characteristic of the chain of command, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and hierarchical control structure, presents a typical bureaucratic organizational characteristic. In this study, police organization is the subject, and through literature discussion and depth interviews with executives at all levels of the police organization, study deeply on the relationship of police officers’ leadership style and organizational performances, in order to find out what kind of leadership style can bring positive effects to the organizational performances, or what kind of leadership style is not that suitable for the police organization or helpful to the improvement of organizational performance. Thus we collate and analyze the conclusions and recommendations. The study finds out that in the types of Single Dimension Leadership Theory, the police officers at all levels within the organization especially give very high degree of recognition on “democratic leadership”. In addition, though the variables which affect organizational performances are a lot, the univariate of leadership style has limited impacts. Besides, currently there are some indicators of performance appraisal which naturally have conflicts against the basic characteristics of the police organization's mission, resulting in the doubts of the fairness and effectiveness of the performance evaluation system.
