碩士 === 義守大學 === 管理學院管理碩博士班 === 101 === After becoming a World Trade Organization member in 2007, Vietnam enjoys a lot of business opportunities as Vietnamese companies now could access technology and capital that were hard to acquire in the past. However, the international integration also brings numerous challenges. Many foreign firms have realized the potential of Vietnam and have changed the attention to the country creating a fierce competition. Like other fields, the Vietnamese system of banking receives both opportunities and challenges. In order to survive in the new business environment, Vietnamese commercial banks need to improve their operational efficiencies. So do Vietnamese commercial banks work efficiently? What factors affect their efficiencies? This study investigated these and similar questions. The study aims to get better understand commercial banks in Vietnam under new circumstance. Findings from the study could be used in providing solutions to improve the competitiveness for commercial banks in Vietnam. Data is collected from annual balance sheets and income statements of 42 Vietnamese commercial banks and is analyzed by descriptive statistics and Data Envelopment Analysis. Implications and recommendations for future studies are also discussed in the study.
