This article first defines the fundamental element of the hairdryers’ External design, and collects Kansei vocabularies and sample pictures of hairdryers, using questionnaire to survey the subjects’ Kansei evaluation designs of hairdryers’ appearance. According to the results of the questionnaire to find out the important factors in Kansei vocabularies to conducts formal survey again. Analyze the results of formal questionnaire with Quantification Theory Type I to generalize the Kansei mode and the designs that customers prefer to. Then, individually probes into the differences of Kansei design elements among classification of male, female and the customers who have the experiences of purchasing or not. This study concludes: 1. The definition of four major design elements of the shape of hairdryers: Overall appearance¸ outlet, power switches and handles, and generalize twelve design items and twenty four categories. These design items differ in: hairdryers’ color of the exterior appearance (single-color, multi-color), hairdryers’ exterior appearance structure (special design, smooth round design), hairdryers’ longitude (short(<200mm), long(≧200mm)), hairdryers’ weight (light(<400g), heavy(≧400g)), gilded design (does, doesn’t), exterior shell(shining, matte), motor-fans location (side, back), outlets’ design (normal design, special design), power switches’ form (sliding, rocker), additional function power switch (does, doesn’t), handles’ design (round design, rectangular design), handles’ form (fixed, foldable). 2. Four important factor analysis divide in:“noble-cheap,”“useful-un-useful,”“comfortable handle-uncomfortable handle,” and“light-heavy.” 3. The design results which fit all subjects the most affect the Kansei vocabularies. These top three designs which relate to “noble” and “useful” are: hairdryers’ color of the exterior appearance, hairdryers’ longitude and handling structures; the designs which relate to “comfortable handle” are: handles’ design, motor-fan location and hairdryers’ color of the exterior appearance; the designs relating to “light” are: hairdryers’ weight, motor-fan location and hairdryers’ exterior appearance structure. 4. Compare to the classification of male and female, the feelings to the two Kansei vocabularies, “noble” and “comfortable handle” are the same, while the feelings to “useful” and “light” are different. Among these Kansei vocabularies, the feeling to “useful” is the most different. 5. Comparing to the classification that are experience or inexperienced on purchasing, the feelings to the two Kansei vocabularies, “noble” and “comfortable handle” are the same between these two groups, while the feelings to “useful” and “light” are different.
