Although a lot of researchers have studied on Love-river paleochannel in Kaohsiung, but seldom has studied or investigated on soil liquefaction owing to earthquake. Thus, this study used Love- river paleochannel in Kaohsiung city of Bagua-Laos region as an example. Liquefaction potential assessment was calculated by five kinds of mathematical models based on N value in soil and seismic acceleration. This study is focused on the selection of the optimal mathematical model for liquefaction potential assessment and critical earthquake intensity and seismic acceleration values with the soil liquefaction of the surface layer. It would provide for engineering consultant firm to design future project of structure located on Love- river paleochannel in Kaohsiung. The results for liquefaction potential assessment of mathematical models showed that mathematical model modified by a US seismologist of professor Seed in 1985 is the optimal mathematical model for liquefaction potential assessment. By liquefaction potential analysis, Love-river paleochannel in Kaohsiung city of Bagua-Laos region may occur soil liquefaction under a sixth grade of earthquake intensity (seismic acceleration=317Gal). Then, the estimation of critical liquefaction limit value for the surface layer is a sixth-grade seismic intensity (seismic acceleration up to 290Gal)..
