Description
Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 華語文教學碩士學位學程 === 101 === Abstract Human culture is connected to literary works. All ethnic groups of the world differ from each other. Every group has its own culture, custom, mentality and worldview. Due to the differences mentioned above, the status of gender relations of countries also varies differently. In the present world, movies greatly influence our society. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the national position of genders in Taiwan and Mongolia. The researcher used two films as research tools for this study. Though, men and women are of the same body, but their positions are different with regards to home and society. Especially when their roles have switched from singlehood to parenthood, they have responsibilities to earn a living and to bring up their kids. In many Asian countries, positions of men are more dominant than women. They have the power to decide big issues and earn respect as head of the family. Housework, chores and raising children are generally considered to belong to women''s domains. They have no power or right to decide big issues in life. However, not all Asian countries give women that relatively low place in society. It seems to vary from country to country, as there are women-dominant countries in some parts of the world. The films chosen for this experiment are: 1) a Taiwanese film “ Eat , drink men and women ” , in which a Taiwanese family, with only daughters to inherit possessions, was featured. 2) a Mongolian film “ Five fingers ” , in which a Mongolian daughter with her 4 male younger siblings, has died mother and an unfaithful father was featured. This research is conducted to determine the relationship between the 2 sexes and the roles that they play in both Taiwanese and Mongolian societies. Keywords: culture, custom, mentality, worldview, gender status, inherit possessions
