Thus the concepts of “energy saving and carbon reduction” and “green touring” are gradually accepted. Government actively promotes the usage of clean vehicles using LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) by providing subvention. The LPG vehicle becomes one of the better solutions for those drivers who attempt to reduce the fuel cost. In order to understand the influences of various traveling vehicles including LPG vehicle on pollutant emission issues, this study conducted both questionnaire surveys and on-site experiments using on-board portable emission measurement system (PEMS). PEMS is able to monitor the pollutant emissions including NOX, CO2 and so on second by second along the popular traveling paths between Taipei downtown and Yang-Ming-Shan National Park. The fuel cost and pollutant emission of various vehicles traveling along the experimental paths were compared with questionnaires surveyed from travelers. This study understands which traveling vehicle has lower fuel costs and pollutant emissions. And, the perceptions of travels were further confirmed by PEMS experiments. This study also proposed the proper strategies of transportation system management focusing on the experimental paths and is beneficial to make future leisure policies.
