The combination of insecticide and nectar was used as an attractant toxic sugar bait (ATSB) to lure blood-feeding insects. This method is successful for many blood-feeding species in many countries. Dangue fever, a disease occurs each year in south Taiwan, is transmitted by Aedes aegypti, which has developed very high resistance to insecticides and leads to inefficient control of dengue fever. Therefore, new strategies for better control of vector to reduce dengue fever were needed.   In this study, nonanal, phenyl aldehyde, phenyl acetaldehyde, synthetic apple flavor and longan honey were used as potential attractants. In U-shape tube experiment, 0.5 and 5 ng/ml nonanal, 0.625 % apple flavor, and 20 % longan honey were able to lure seven-day-old female Ae. aegypti. According to the results, nonanal is an excellent attractant in U-shape experiment. Further experiments showed that Ae. aegypti adults of all tested ages have the same tendency to be attracted to 0.5 and 5 ng/ml nonanal. In filed experiment, nonanal, apple flavor and longan honey were used as adult sugar-feeding attractants. Each of these adult attractants was combined with oviposition attractant, e.g. mosquito larva food and/or oviposition stimulant, to set up 16 multi-function traps. They were designed to catch both sugar-feeding and breeding sites-seeking mosquitoes. The results showed that the multi-function traps were able to trap both adult Aedes spp. and their eggs. Apple flavor and honey with both oviposition attractant caught more adults of Aedes than the other traps. Honey with both oviposition attractant is the best attractant to stimulate Aedes laying eggs. These multi-function traps can also catch adults of Culex. The most attractive lures for Culex are apple flavor and nonanal.   This study proves that using sugar-feeding attractant can monitor and control population of mosquito. A single sugar-feeding attractant can lure different kinds of mosquito.
