In the experimental part, three common ledger lengths frequently used in the domestic construction sites were utilized to build the four sets of 5.4m height and “three-story one-row one-bay” system scaffold specimens, including the row length and bay length of 1.2mx1.2m, 1.5mx1.5m,1.8mx1.8m, 1.8mx1.5m, for the loading tests to understand the bay length and row length influences to load capacity. In the numerical simulation part, this study also developed the three-dimentional nonlinear finite-element analysis models to simulate the loading tests of the four sets of system scaffolds in the experimental part. The numerical simulation results agreed well with the test results with acceptable accuracy and precision. The finite-element simulation experiences were applied to the numerical analyses of 60 sets of “multi-story multi-row multi-bay” system scaffolds. Through the systematical analyses and comparisons, the geometric factors influencing the load capacities of system scaffolds were invesitigated without considering the lateral force and sidesway of the system scaffold. The numerical simulation results showed that height, bay lenghth (or row length), bay number (row number) and height-width ratio all affected the load capacities of system scaffolds.
