The designed organizational structure allows to excel at both conflicting modes of innovation can be termed as organizational ambidexterity. However, how firms strategically deal with various kinds of innovation dilemmas still remain understudied in a systematic manner. Based on the schools of organizational learning, strategic management, organizational design, and innovation studies, the research develops a notion of ambidextrous innovation capabilities (AIC) and AIC scale. AIC consists of four constructs: commitment, searching, learning and structure ambidexterity. And antecedents of AIC are elaborated into three dimensions: corporate entrepreneurship, creative support and achievement-oriented leadership. The research proposes three hypotheses addressing AIC scale, the relationships between AIC and performance, antecedents and AIC. The results have shown that AIC scale has higher reliability and validity. AIC is positively associated with performance and antecedents are positively associated with AIC. The research concludes that the development of AIC could overcome innovation dilemmas, in turn enhance the performance.
