Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 英語學系 === 101 === This study aimed to investigate the effects of English songs instruction on elementary school fourth-grade students’ listening comprehension. The subjects in this study were from two classes at an elementary school in Taoyuan County, one for the experimental group and one for a control group. There were totally 60 fourth-grade students participated in this study. The experimental group received English songs instruction for 12 weeks. This study lasted for fourteen weeks, including the listening comprehension pretest and posttest as well as the questionnaire. The instruments included the Young Learners English (YLE) Listening Comprehension Test, the English Learning Questionnaire, the Questionnaire on Students’ Attitudes toward English Songs Instruction, and twelve English songs. The quantitative data were analyzed by employing the SPSS program which included descriptive statistics, t-tests, and frequency percentages, in order to explore the effects of English songs instruction on elementary school students’ listening comprehension. Results of this study showed that the elementary school fourth-grade students who received English songs instruction were better on English listening comprehension as compared to the control group. Furthermore, the results of the questionnaire revealed that students in the experiment group thought that English songs instruction could help them learn English more effectively and improve their English listening comprehension. Students in the experiment group also felt that English songs instruction could increase their interest in learning English. Finally, the limitations of the study and the suggestions for further research were provided at the end of the thesis.
