The study is divided into two parts: preliminary and major experiment. Preliminary experiment uses the questionnaire survey procedure to evaluate the suitability of facial animation software used to produce the facial emotion recognition materials. The major experimental adopted the one-group pretest-posttest design to assess whether the facial emotion recognition materials can improve the skill of facial emotion recognition for special education students. The subject consists of four resource class students in Changhua County Elementary School. First, give the students a pretest. Then, let them learn the facial emotion recognition skill by watching the facial emotion recognition materials. Finally, give them a posttest. After the experiment, we used the paired t-test for statistical analysis. The results show that posttest scores were significantly higher than pretest. It indicated that applying facial animation software can truly improve the skill of facial emotion recognition for students in special education.
