In this thesis, a bidirectional interleaved DC to DC converter is proposed for the power smoothing system. The proposed converter is composed of a two-phase interleaved DC converter and an isolated full-bridge phase shift DC converter. The ripple of the current at the low voltage side is nearly eliminated because of the two-phase interleaved control. Moreover, the zero voltage switching of the active switches can be achieved with the phase shift control. In this thesis, the circuit integration and the operation modes of the proposed converter are firstly analyzed. The relationship between the shifted phase and the power flow is derived as well. Finally, a prototype with 400w rated output power is constructed. The low voltage side is set to 20V for 8 series-connected supercapacitors and the high voltage side is set to 200V for the DC bus in the renewable energy system. From the experimental results, it can be seen that the power flow between the input and output sides can be effectively controlled by adjusting the phase shift of the active switches.
