Summary:碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 臺灣文化學系 === 101 === ABSTRACT The history of Dutch Protestant missionaries in Batavia and Formosa in the seventeenth century made a great contribution of the Christian spread in the Indies. The beginning of 1620s was the starting point of the establishment of the churches in these two areas. By efforts of the ministers, the Christian propagation was resulted in a different outcome. This study focuses on the comparison between the Christian conversion in Batavia and Formosa, which based on the Dutch published archives and current researches. The aim of the research is to describe the process of Christian propagation between the differences and similarities in both areas. As a result, this research comes into following conclusions. Firstly, the missionaries used the same methods in the two areas. Secondly, the Dutch missionaries faced two different kinds of situations in these two areas. Thirdly, the Christian propagation in Batavia and Formosa had different results which the propagation that happened in Batavia was not as successful as in Formosa.
