Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 國文學系 === 101 === The study mainly looks into the contents of Guimao Travels, and parts of Journey in seclusion (Gui qian ji) and Shou tz’s Poetry additionally. Shan Shili was a minority of women who could travel abroad in the late Qing; however, she was the first person, who kept track of what she saw in the foreign countries and even published the work afterward. There are six chapters in the study; the chapter one is an introduction of terminology explanation, namely enlightenment, text, and deconstruct. The chapter two is discussing the theory of deconstruct; that’s Laclau’s antagonism and heterogeneity, Kristeva’s marginal and movement variation, as well as Harding’s perspective and strong objectivity. It talks about Shan Shili’s biography and the context of Guimao Travels in the chapter three; the chapter four is an analysis of Guimao Travels from three aspects, namely literacy, female consciousness, and national perception. As to the chapter five, it probes into Shan Shili’s forming progress about the enlightening consciousness and that last, the chapter six, is a conclusion. The method this study adopts is through the text deconstruction, looking over how Shan Shili constructed her own enlightening consciousness during the new and old changeable era of the late Qing. From her works, we can see that Shan Shili agreed on the advancing systems and techniques of western culture; on the other hand, she also repeatedly appealed to place the importance on the value of traditional Chinese virtues. Because of her literacy and traditional connotation, her description towards western literature and art is not only penetrating but also radical. To sum up, Shan Shili, who was different from other enlighteners, followed a gentle revolutionary route to advance gradually. Her identity to be a jointer between the traditional and modern historical culture, between the movement of new and old alternation, highlights Shan Shili’s uniqueness and value to be an initiator in the development of female enlightening consciousness in the late Qing.
