Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 成人教育研究所 === 101 === A Content Analysis of Master’s Theses and Doctoral Dissertations on Adult Study Circles from Years of 1994-2012 in Taiwan Abstract   This study is to analyze master’s theses and doctoral dissertations on adult study circles in Taiwan. It is to identify the overall picture of Taiwan’s adult study circles, in including its amount, target group, research areas, methodologies, topics, focuses, and results . The overall result is examined respectively. The findings are as follows: I. After 1996, the average of the studies is 1-2 per year; yet in year the of 2001, 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2009, the amount of studies researches increased. II. In the topic of adult study circles, only master’s theses exists, and no related doctoral dissertation is found. III. In terms of research universities, they include universities form northern, southern, eastern and central Taiwan. National Taiwan Normal University has the highest amount; it produced 4 theses (13.79%). IV. In terms research departments, the highest amount of theses papers come from adult education related departments (17 papers, 58.62%), the second highest is from others (7 papers,24.14%), and the third is from education related departments (5 papers, 17.24%). V. Qualitative researches are the most of the used method; it counts a total of 20 papers (68.96%). And the next is 8 pure quantitative studies (27.59%). Only 1 paper is a quantitative research with interviews (3.45%). VI. In terms of target groups, the highest is adult (including not-identified subjects) (13 papers, 44.83%), the next is female adults (12 papers, 41.38%), and then is adults with children (3 papers, 10.34%). VII. In terms of the research areas, it covers northern, southern and central Taiwan. The highest is non-geographic specific (41%), next is northern Taiwan (24%), then southern part (21%), and central part (14%). VIII. In terms of the difficulties that study circles faced, (1.) members learning problems is10 (34.48%), (2).group leadership is 11 (37.93%), 3. external factors is 6 papers (20.69%). IX. In terms of functions, the highest is “improving individual abilities” (11 papers, 37.93%), the second is “improving social skills” (9 papers, 31.03%), the third is “improving reading effectiveness” (7 papers, 24.14%), the fourth is “helping growth of family members” and “increasing use of public organizations” (both 5 papers, 17.24%), the seventh is “improving community/social identity” (4 papers, 13.79%), and finally “others: de-prisonization” (1 paper, 3.45%).
