Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 音樂學系 === 101 === This study focuses on the musical background, analysis and performance interpretation suggestions of the Violin Sonata in E-flat Major, op. 18, by German composer Richard Strauss (1864-1949). Under his father’s strict tuition, the compositional style of Strauss’ early works revealed a strong influence of the Austro-German masters, especially those of the Classical and Romantic periods. In 1885, after acquiring a better knowledge of the then avant-garde musical ideas of Liszt (1811-1886) and Wagner (1813-1883), the change of compositional style began to show in his writing. The only violin sonata of Strauss was composed during that time (1887-8). Its song-like lyrical style and virtuosic technical display set a new milestone for violin sonatas and make this sonata one of the standard repertoires for all violinists. The study is devided into four chapters. Chapter one is a brief introduction of the motives and goals of this research, while chapter two gives an review of the writing concerning composer’s musical background and the development of the violin sonatas. Chapter three focuses on the analysis of the work, and personal performance interpretation suggestions are provided as well. The conclusion is made in chapter four.
